Diary Entry #23: Bloopers

I decided to make a bloopers reel of all the clips when we were filming our music video (both band and narrative):

Diary Entry #22: Editing 4

Today I finished my rough cut for my music video. Because I only had about 30 seconds left it didn't take me long to finish editing. Even though there are some flaws in the music video like the lip syncing not being completely spot on and I'm not completely happy with the different effects but when the audience feedback comes back I will change some of the things I did:

The Luma Keyer effect that I used for the band was the best I could do, as I wanted to darken down the band as it looked too 'light' and usually the conventions of the rock genre involve dark lighting. Due to the fact we couldn't use the building that we wanted to use, this was a factor that would have to be overcome when it came to editing as when we filmed it it was early in the morning. For my final cut, I will edit the effect so I am fully satisfied with the outcome and I can finish the video.

This is the effect I used for the narrative part of the music video. Because the song was actually supposed to be a dream, I decided that the best effect I could use was a dream effect. It is purely that effect as I feel if I messed around with the effect too much it would ruin the music video and the effect that it gives when the audience watch it.

Diary Entry #21: Editing 3

Today I continued to edit my music video. Due to my editing of the clips quite fast, I felt that I wouldn't haven enough clips to complete the entire music video so I cut out the second verse and chorus from the song so the music video would still look good and so I wouldn't have to resort to elongating the clips to fit to the end of the song. Here is what happened so far:

This is where I cut my song off - I tried my best to make sure the music flowed, but if I feel it is too obvious then I will try to change it in some way. I cut out a verse and the second chorus and this allowed me to effectively finish my music video and continue the quality of the work to a high standard and consistent instead of keeping the part of the song and dragging out the clips, making it look obvious what I've done and lowering the quality of the music video. I feel this was a good decision as I am happy with the outcome.

I used my favourites to filter out which parts of the band I needed as they performed the songs multiple times and each are 3 minutes long. I didn't go through them all and choose, as I was editing I was deciding which shots to use to vary which member you saw.

Diary Entry #20: Editing 2

This is what has been created so far, the effects still need to be put on but the editing of the music video is going well. I'll put the effects on last so that I don't get confused as to what has an effect and what doesn't so the music video looks consistent and flows well without any anomalies in it.

Diary Entry #19: Filming the Band

Today we filmed the band performance. Unfortunately it took longer than we had expected it to due to our original location being cut off by the council. It was chained off and there were fences around it. Although this is was good place for our music video to be filmed, we didn't want to risk anything so my mum suggested that we could go to Worlebury Woods and film by the water tower. When we got there we decided to just film in the woods and not by the water tower and set up our band there. Jess had her car and played the song out of the speakers to the band so they could perform.
Here are some photos:

Diary Entry #17: Editing

Here is the first edit of the music video from what was filmed on Saturday. The black parts are for the band performance and there are a few of continuity errors with regards to camera positioning and I can be seen in a mirror in the background of one shot but we will re-film that part as we're not finished with filming the narrative:

I posted the link to the rough edit of my video onto social networking sites to get feedback from any audience's who are interested in that type of genre

Diary Entry #16: Digipak research 1

Because we're ahead of schedule, I decided to start looking at some designs for the album artwork which is part of the promotion pack that we need to produce. Initially, I decided to have a photo of the two characters lying in bed turning away from each other as the front cover and a panoramic shot of the location of the band performance on the inside of the album. Here are some ideas for the album artwork:

For the inside of the album I've decided that I want to have a panoramic shot of the band in their location in front of the barn.

Diary Entry #15: Day 1 of Filming

Today we started filming for the music video. We've started filming the narrative part of the music video at Jess' house in her parents' bedroom. We managed to film half of the music video shots along with experimenting a few more options with regard to the album artwork. Here are a few photos of the set:

Diary Entry #14: Shooting Schedule

Jess started a conversation on Facebook to arrange when we were going to shoot the narrative with Kat and Jack:

When it came to the band we were arranging to film it on Tuesday:

16th November - narrative filming at Jess' house with Kat and Jack

Diary Entry #13: Location Scouting

When listening to the song The Worst of Them by Issues we imagined the band performance to be in a derelict warehouse. We decided to stick with this idea as we thought it wouldn't be too difficult to find one around the area we live in. However, this has proved to be quite hard. Our ideal location would be a crumbling abandoned warehouse which in the day would look effective but we would put an effect on the shots to darken the area to make it look more 'rock like.' We had an idea like some of these:

However, as the only places in Weston that are derelict enough to look like what we want is Birnbeck Pier which is far too dangerous, I think we may have to change the location of the band performance. We still want it in an old, derelict place but I don't think we'll be able to use a warehouse if we can't find anything. As asked some people on Facebook if they were able to suggest anything for the music video:

Birnbeck Pier

Brean Down Fort

We also started up a Facebook chat to stay in contact with each other and tell each other about the plans that we have about the music video:
